My Car's History
The car's first owner turned the car into a mini racecar. He isntalled oversized pistons, NGK B6ES spark plugs, an aftermarket steering wheel, mini door handles, 13 inch wheels in the rear, fat tires in the front, and had the dealer install an aftermarket tach. He hardly ever drove the car and only put a few thousand miles on it.
The car's second owner drove the car forty miles each direction to work and back each day. He burned up the engine driving it so far so many times. He worked at the same company my dad did, and he bought the car from him in 1980 for $400.
The car's third owner (my family) got the car to run again in 1981, but it never ran well. My dad bought a second engine from the junk yard for $75 to try and make one good engine from the two bad ones. He tore the top half of the engine apart and fixed everything to get it running again. From the little the car was driven after he put it back together, the timing chain tensioner wheel and the center wheel were both striped. He parked it in the garage thinking someday he could make it an electric car.
In 2005, I started ordering parts that I knew we would need to get the car running again. My dad gave me a set of Craftsman sockets, a nice kit with 6 and 12 point metric and SAE, enough to work on the car for my birthday. In December of 2006, I thought I had the parts, supplies, and tools I would need to start restoring the car.
On March 18, 2007 I bought 3 1971 AN600's from Matt in Georgia for parts cars. There are two bodies and all the parts from the third. The lot came with a set of NOS fenders, NOS jugs and pistons (corroded though), and many other parts. I am selling parts to pay for the cars and the trip down to get them. I am going to use three of his wheels and three of his tires on my car. I will use two of my wheels with Yokohama A008's.
